  The Venus Fly Trap / Alex Novak - Mercurial 1978-2018. Compiling 40 years of VFT mainman and Northampton's leader of the post-punk pack Alex Novak's Underground Career in showbusiness. I saws, Religious Overdose, Attrition, VFT and a couple more.
  
  THE VENUS FLY TRAP
  MORPHINE-(1987) After leaving ATTRITION based in London at that  time) and a brief sojourn with Norwich band DANCE NAKED, ALEX NOVAK  headed back to his home town of Northampton (famous for ALAN MOORE and  BAUHAUS). Hooking up with his brother JOHN NOVAK (ISAWS/WHERES LISSE)  and Art School friend TONY BOOKER, they demoed tracks which were picked  up by French label TUESDAY RECORDS and MORPHINE was re-recorded for the debut 12” release.
  
  DESOLATION RAILWAY-(1988) Second 12”single release for TUESDAY  RECORDS, both
  tracks appeared on the Mini-LP MARS. Extra tracks were  recorded for the CD release by French label DANCETERIA based in Lille.
  
  Original versions of MORPHINE/CATALYST/DESOLATION RAILWAY released as a download
  on GLASS Miniature 2019.

  ROCKET USA-(1989) Drastic re-working of SUICIDE track for third  12”/CD single with
  contributions from PAT (JAZZ BUTCHER). Produced by KEVIN  HASKINS (BAUHAUS/LOVE
  AND ROCKETS).
  
  ROCKET USA/CLOUD 9/OPIUM WAR released as a download on GLASS miniature 2019.
  
  EUROPA-(1990) Fourth 12”/CD single for DANCETERIA,re-mixed in France by  JEAN LOUIS
  (GREIF) the original appears on the album TOTEM (DANCETERIA).
  
  EUROPA (remix)/SHADOWPLAY (live) released as a download on GLASS miniature 2019.
  
  ACHILLES HEEL-(1991 )Fifth 12”/CD single for DANCETERIA recorded in  France at the
  same time as the album PANDORAS BOX produced by PAT  FISH (JAZZ BUTCHER).
  
  MOSCOW MENAGERIE-(1994) Recorded in Bonn/Germany appears on the LUNA TIDE
  album via SPECTRE RECORDS/Germany.
  
  PULP SISTER-(1997) From the album DARK AMOUR produced and recorded in Coventry
  by MARTIN BOWES (ATTRITION) on another German label SOUNDBUSTER.
  
  METROPOLIS-(2004) Taken from the album ZENITH  released by BIG  BLUE/SPV
  Poland/Germany.
  
  HUMAN FLY-(2011) Cover version of CRAMPS classic that appeared on the album NEMESIS via BIG BLUE/SPV.
  
  VITESSE-(2018) Another label move this time back to London based GLASS MODERN
  from the recent album ICON produced by MARTIN BOWES (ATTRITION)

  ISAWS (1977-79)
  STANDENS ABANDONED (1979) - ISAWS formed while ALEX NOVAK was at Art  School
  (1976-1980) fellow students included KEVIN HASKINS, DAVID J and  DANIEL ASH
  (BAUHAUS/LOVE AND ROCKETS), band members JOHN NOVAK (WHERES 
  LISSE/VENUS FLY TRAP), PETE BROWNJOHN (RELIGIOUS OVERDOSE) and
  JEM CLACK  were inspired by the punk explosion of 1976. Two cassettes were released
  recorded at BECK studios (1978/79) which were later compiled as the album BURNT
  OFFERING-2002 (tribute to a local fanzine) and released by BIG BLUE/SPV.
  
  RELIGIOUS OVERDOSE (1979-82)
  CONTROL ADDICTS-(1980) First 7”single for GLASS RECORDS recorded in  London by
  CIARAN HARTE, after departing ISAWS and teaming up with  another Art School friend
  RICHARD FORMBY (IN EMBRACE,JAZZ  BUTCHER/SPECTRUM) a further two singles
  appeared on GLASS ...I SAID GO 7”(1981)and IN THIS CENTURY 12”(1982) all appear on
  the GLASS HYMNBOOK 1980-82 CD (GLASS Redux 2018).   
  
  THE TEMPEST (1982-84)
  After the demise of RELIGIOUS OVERDOSE teamed up with local scenesters  MARK
  REFOY (SYNDROMES/SPACEMEN 3/SPIRITUALIZED/SLIPSTREAM/PET SHOP BOYS),
  JOHN LUCCIBELLO (RUSSIANS/VENUS FLY TRAP), MICK PACKWOOD (WHERES
  LISSE/JAZZ BUTCHER) and ALAN EMPTAGE. Released two singles LADY LEFT  THIS 7"
  (GLASS RECORDS-1983) and MONTEZUMA 7”/12” (ANAGRAM RECORDS-1983 and an
  album 5 AGAINST THE HOUSE (ANAGRAM-1984) later re-issued by  OPTIC NERVE-2017
  on LP/CD. 
  
  ATTRITION (1984-86)
  Joined ATTRITION for one album SMILING AT THE HYPOGONDER CLUB (THIRD MIND
  RECORDS-1985 )the track  FEEL THE BACKLASH was taken from this  album.
  
  NOVA STATE CONSPIRACY (1996)
  DEFINITIVE ITEM taken from the ZEIGEIST  CDEP( DION FORTUNE RECORDS/GERMANY)
  a side project with comic illustrator SIMON COLEBY.
  
  THE DEN (1995)
  Another side project with TIM PERKINS (EMPERORS OF ICE CREAM/ALAN MOORE).
  
  SPORE(1997)
  Side project with dance producer MICKY MUDDIMAN.
